C-Thru Tube Preamp Schematic

C-Thru Tube Preamp Schematic

Here's a circuit with a 6N16B-V that Rock introduced us to thru his Mir project on groupdiy!

I was curious to listen to it after the conversation we had in his thread, and it's a great surprise.
I understand why people would use it, even in hifi!

My observations: hifi, transparent to the source material, very detailed in every frequency bands, very punchy.
Like the 6SN7, it can have a 'tube sound' or be totally transparent.

This particular tube has a very clean low end, like what we said about russian 6SN7s in general.

You can leave it without grid leak, it will sound a lil more like a wall! Which can be amazing on a ton of things!
I added one still in my circuit, the highs are more controlled, and the transients are more envelopped as well!

In my opinion it can be a great option to have in a circuit! And we could try it as a cathode follower!
I will try it, i have two!

My multimeter's battery is running out, so i'm not 100% sure about my measurements! Amazon brings me new 9v batteries tomorrow, i will recheck everything, and update the schematic with corrected values if needed.

That tube doesn't care particularly about B+, it remains constant sounding from 180v to 100v, that's why i settled on that B+

I started at Anode: 92v and ended up at 48v!

I'm attaching sound samples, Rew screen capture, build state (it was such a pain to solder to these pins! And the pinout is so F'ed-up! lol) and a screen capture of the recordings so you can see the levels compared to the original on top.

I'm only trying to make the deffects of the preamp more apparent, noise, un-musical distortion, problems, ringing, unnatural..

Since I will use these everyday for the next years, i don't want them to make me work harder, their reason to exist is so that i can only focus on composition and not on solving technical problems.

Once i'm in music mode, nothing else exists, even plugging a cable or turning a preamp gain knob can be seen as 'no way'

Suspension of disbelief is all that we're looking for, adding to the spectacle, marking the senses in order to create memories that we will build upon, or helping people getting connected to theirs. Music is still the most powerful art guys, we're so lucky!

edit: lol i could say it's the 990 DOA tube equivalent, we should try it in eqs!
